Somatic Movement YOGA for Recovery

Somatic Movement Yoga is a gentle, internally guided yoga practice that prioritizes felt sense over form and nervous-system regulation over performance.

Rather than pushing into shapes or holding postures, somatic yoga uses slow, mindful movements, subtle repetitions, and intentional pauses to help practitioners sense, release, and reorganize patterns of tension in the body. Movements are often small, adaptive, and choice-based, allowing each person to stay within a zone of safety and ease.

This practice emphasizes:

    •    Interoception (awareness of internal sensations)

    •    Agency and choice (you decide how much and how far)

    •    Parasympathetic support (rest-and-digest activation)

    •    Pain-informed and trauma-sensitive pacing

Breath is used as a supportive companion, not a force, and rest is woven throughout the class. The goal is not flexibility or strength as an end point, but neuromuscular re-education, improved coordination, and a renewed sense of trust in the body.

Somatic Movement Yoga is especially supportive for:

    •    Stress, burnout, or nervous-system dysregulation

    •    Chronic pain or tension patterns

    •    Post-injury or post-surgical recovery

    •    Those seeking a quieter, more compassionate yoga experience

In essence, it is a practice of listening rather than doing, helping the body remember how to move with efficiency, safety, and ease.
